I was born into a military family at Bethesda Naval Hospital while my dad was stationed in Washington DC. I spent my formative years on the East Coast and Southern US until my dad retired from the military in Jacksonville, Florida in 1973. We moved across the country to San Diego, CA where I went to junior high and high school. SD is where my parents still live today, and where I call home.
Dreamer and I met in prison. Let me qualify that statement…He was a Sergeant at the Correctional Officers Academy in Galt, CA when I came through as a cadet in 1994. However, our long distance romance didn’t develop until after I graduated and moved to Southern Cal to work at Ironwood State Prison in the middle of the desert 90 miles east of Palm Springs. I moved to Sacramento in the summer of 1995 and we married in November of 2000. We have 5 young adult children (Drew, Greg II, Rainey, Matt, and Dayo), and we’ve been empty nesters for the last 3 years. Yipeee!!!
I am an avid Foodie and love to cook and entertain friends and family by hosting intimate dinner parties, or just cooking a bunch of good food and calling everybody to eat! And oh, if you’re ever in the market for a wedding cake…I’m your girl! I’ve designed and made wedding cakes for over 10 years.
I counterbalance my love for food and sweets through training as a triathlete and participating in several races around the greater Sacramento area throughout the year. I’ll be competing in my first marathon (26.2 miles) in December 2012. One of my Bucket List items is to complete an Ironman (2.2 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, & 26.2 mile run) race before I turn 50.
I joined the Buffalo Soldier’s Sacramento Chapter almost two years ago and I’m really excited to now be an East Bay Chapter Associate. I recently picked my bike moniker after unsuccessfully waiting for 2 years for someone to come up with something clever. It’s V-Lo and is derived from V-for Vicki; and Lo- for my middle name which is Lorraine. It is an endearing name my mom has called me since childhood. I’m very interested in learning to ride and will be taking a MC safety class by the end of the summer. The jury is still out on whether or not I’ll ever want to own a bike…
I look forward to racking up some miles with my East Bay Brothers and Sisters.
