Sasse Red
Like my husband, Sonny Person, I too was a charter member of the Sacramento Chapter of the BSMC in 2002. That was my introduction into the world of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club.
Having a commitment to safe motorcycle riding, sharing of Buffalo Soldiers history, and an undying need to serve the chapter members and the community. These are the characteristics that I have attempted to demonstrate each and every time I put on my “colors”.
Over the following 7 years, I traveled across country on my iron horse, meeting people and bikers from various parts of the U.S., attending NABSTMC annual meetings, National Bikers Roundups, and sharing my knowledge of Buffalo Soldier history with all that showed an interest. I was able to travel over 60,000 miles on my motorcycles during that time.
Over the years, I became more visible as I rode my bike throughout the California. I embraced the opportunity to encourage more and more women to join the chapter. Some became full members, while the majority remained as associates.
As the chapter continued to grow, I actively participated in the various community related activities. This not only helped support those charitable organization, but also placed a brighter focus on who the Buffalo Soldier motorcycle club was in Northern California. In 2007 and 2008, we were able to annually feed over 250 needy men, women and children in various communities in Sacramento County.
In the summer of 2009, we relocated to the Seattle, Washington area, because my husband accepted a job there. I recently transferred my membership to the East Bay Chapter.
